@doc03 - some says they do nbme 1,2,3 offline. with this, i became totally confused bec i thought you need to purchase nbme online. does it mean somebody can have a copy of this? do you have one? if yes, would you be kind enough to send me those copies? tnx. i have some copies of practice exams too but its an old edition of qbanks, etc. if you are interested you can email me @ [email protected] btw, i read that you are looking for the score estimator in other threads. hope this one would help. i found it also in other threads that i read. http://www.clinicalreview.com/welcome/resources/usmle-score-calculator.html edited by tutubi on 12/17/2009

Need advice
Hi I want to take my exam in feb, I'm doing UW,80% is completed and my score is 42%.. I did the kaplan for twice, now reading goljan path and FA which i didn't do earlier,, I try to sutdy but I don't no why im not able to do good score in UW. My initial score was >50 % but day by day its going low.. I m very scared and frustrated,, Don't know what to do,, I really need some good advice,, What should I do now??/
hi sal10! i'm an img. i took the exam step 1 way back and unluckily I did not pass. My advised for you, if you think you are not prepared, you can extend your eligibity for $50 only as long as you will extend it not before 5 days of your exam. in my experience, it is impt that you aim high for your step 1 because your score will really matter for matching. i've known a lot of IMG who has a low score for step 1 & 2 and was not able to get match. right now, i am studying for my step 1 again (last step 1 is 2005), its hard but hoping to get a hight score. im doing uworld also. in my case, as i progress to my studying, my score is improving. my score before is ranging from 50-55%, now i'm able to get a score of 55-68%... so keep on practicing your uworld and I believe it is better if you can get an extension... hope my advised help you...

Need advice
Thanks Monalu @ tutubi Thanks a lot for your inspiration Actually I also thought to extend the final exam,, And what abouts the UW? I took it for 2 months and have done almost 80%.. And could you give me some more advice,, How could I review the UW exam. How do you review them,, Do you read and memorize all the explanation? Im very much puzzle what to do,, Really Im going to mad,, And I find no hope..
Sal10 i dont know if I am fit to advise you as I also having a hard time in studying. I kept on extending my eligibility coz I am afraid to fail the second time. i originally wanted to take my exam last dec but now ill take it on feb 20. i'd done almost 70% of uworld. when i started answering it, i chose all main division and all subdivision. i usually get 50-55% as i mentioned before. but when I did by subjects, it raises my scores. i read all the explanations in uworld and tried to understand the concept. but sometimes i alternate with answering all the divisions to give variety in my studying. at the end of the day, i gave some time reading first aid. maybe an hour and then have a good night sleep. to boost my morale, many of my friends told me, it is impt to have a high grade even you take it for the second time than having a low one with one take. i also always check this website http://www.clinicalreview.com/welcome/resources/usmle-score-calculator.html to gauge how will my score for step 1. i plan to review the uworld 2x as what they advise in this forum. and do first aid 2-3x. i read the first aid once but now im reading it the second time ( the one hour that I alot before I sleep. btw, dont get so frustrated, bec I also got 48% when I do all divisions. I know its quite frustrating when you read in this forum because everyone got 99 or 92 and so on... dont be frustrated with then. my advise, after you finish the uworld, just repeat it, and hopefully you will raise you score, thats the time you will gauge that you will able to get the concept when you get a high score. by the way, when do you plan to take you step 1? you can email me at [email protected]. i can share some of my offline practice exam... best of luck...

Gave exam on 19th Jan ...
Hi ... everyone... I gave exam on Jan 19. It was quite better exam than I thought. But, still I do not know how I have performed. 1st and 2nd block : I was very fresh minded and with energy, so completed 1st block in 55 minutes., then rechecked marked questions which were 6. then started 2nd block. Then I felt some tiredness, so took 10 minutes brake. 3rd Block : something new questions I found, many questions I guessed, but still remained calm, but in 4th block, I found my brain stucked after 20-21 questions of block 4, even simple questions started to take my time more. So, I did rest for 3 minutes in block while block cont. Then took 20 min brake, and completed 2 other block, then 15 min brake and did last block. Kaplan notes 1 reading and BRS( for Behavioral only, found better than kaplan) , then took uworld , I felt that I took it too early, but then i found that my 2nd reading was good after uworld. first aid 2 times My U world score 60% NBME form 2 on 30th dec- 198/390 ... not a good score NBME form 3 on 10th Jan- 227/520 ...wow I was happy I did more and more questions from anywhere I could find on net. So, my opinion is - Do more and more questions, do not think like that thing or this topic will be come in my mind in real exam or not, just do not depressed if u find more que incorrect and do not start to read another time that whole book again and again. Do 1 reading of kaplan notes good, then take uworld for 2 months, complete it and then do 2nd reading along with first aid, then give NBME 24-25 days before ur exam date, and see ur weak areas, and here I want to say imp. point- Do not depressed and work 10-12 days perticularly on that weak areas only, then give another NBME test, u will definately find ur score good, then after 8-9 days give ur real exam. So, prepare according to that time line. When I gave first nbme exam, i had low score, didn't feel good, then I read only weak areas for some days, and in next form, I gained good score. 1 more Imp. msg- Do not waste ur time in reading forums and etc., just focus in books ... Fir CNS- see CT scans, X-rays and MRI, which will be more helpful than deep study ...!!! I hope my exam was quite good, but in some blocks I felt that I am not able to pass this exam, but still u all know that everyone gets surprise in step-1 result, so I am not sure I will pass or not ...
hi foscarnet! can you tell me where to look for CT scans, x-rays and MRI. can you give me a link or reference. tnx. your help will be appreciated.

Need advice on these subjects
Hello everybody and thanks for your regular input and advice. I guess a good place to start in my second attempt is by reading in the areas where i performed poorly. Can anybody kindly inform me of good sources for these topics? 1. Behavioral sciences 2. Genetics 3. Gross anatomy 4. Hematopoietic & lymphoreticular systems 5. Histology and Cell Biology 6. Musculoskeletal, skin & connective tissue 7. Nervous system/ Special senses 8. Reproductive & Endocrine Systems Aside first aid and a rigorous use of UWorld i intend to strengthen myself in the topics above and your help is really appreciated. I guess the time has come to look forward and not backwards. i've been feeling sorry for 3 days now but still going to work and doing my duties.. now at least i'm thinking scientifically about how to take this exam on a second time.
hi Moe1981 im wonderin if you were able to see the goljan images. if you did, is it suffice for review of CT, xrays, etc? tnx

Need advice on these subjects
Really gotta thank you on that list. I already went out and bought high yields for Gross Anatomy and Neuroanatomy. I have the Kaplan genetics from a friend. I also bought the BRS pathology. These oughta keep me busy for a while. Do you recommend i read them alone or do i add stuff onto First Aid? I've found it somewhat distasteful in the past to jumble up FA with notes from other books .. it makes your last read slower because you spend too much time obsessing about what you wrote on it.. which ultimately might be misleading and not very high yield.
hi moe 1981 im wonderin if you were able to see the goljan images. if you did, is it suffice for review of CT, xrays, etc? tnx

Heart Sound-Big problem

hi sal10! I too is having a hard time identifying the sounds and i think everyone does also. i think the best thing to do is try to pick up some clue on the clinical vignette and you would be able to answer the heart sounds. that's what im doing. i was able to answer all the heart sounds (believe it or not) on first attempt without actually knowing what i am hearing. i dont know if im just lucky and were able to get it but i believe I was able to get the answer based on the vignette given. best of luck...
