If someone just passed step 3 and therefore just completed the steps 1,2 and 3 sequence. Additionally, step 1 was taken more than 10 years ago.

Does the fact that they have just finished step 3 excuse them from taking SPEX exam? My understanding is (I could be wrong here) that the purpose of SPEX is that you don't provide old results of STEP 1, 2 and 3. In other words, they want to see that you have been in touch with a recent standardized exam. So, if you just took and passed step 3, that shows them that you have just taken a standardized test. Does that get you off of the hook of having to take SPEX exam?
