Hello

can anybody explain to me this Q ?
the incidence of cystic fibrosis among a populaten of europeans is 1/2500. which is predicted incidence of carriers of a cystic fibrosis mutation in this population

the answer is 1/25

i dont understand how and why ??

p square+2pq+ q square = 1
q= 1/50 (square root of 2500, since q square is 2500.
2pq is equal 1/50
Therefore pq is 1/25 (since pq is carrier).

Hope you know this much math.

thank you so much this is helpful
my problem is in math
but r we assuming p=1 since 2pq = 1/25?

I think it is :
(p+q)2 =1 thus p+ 1/25=1 thus p=1-1/25=24/25 =1
p=1 ,q=1/25 thus pq=1/25
