I was taught in med school to take HPI, PMH, PSH, FH, SH, OGH, and ROS. I follow that order and I do well with it. But I see some people use all these mnemonics that jumble up everything. I am wondering what other peoples thoughts are on their use? Are they helpful and if yes, how so? They seem to mess things up and over generalize things. I would think this would be frowned on by the examiners because it shows that the examinee follows a script and doesn't think about the patient.
